Hello, I just thought I would let you guys know what I am doing for this December! I haven't figured out anything good for the older kids just yet, but I've got the younger ones doing a couple things! Grade k to eight are colouring on booze bags for the holidays, and its going to be like a contest. They each got two bags, they seem to really enjoy it!

The second thing I have them doing is a contest also, but with plays. Grade 5-8 are making their own plays, the theme is drinking and driving. I am having them make them all on their own with no help from me! Because its about what they think and believe, not what I say it means. They will be performing their plays at our Christmas concert on December 17th. I am really looking forward to it!!Anyways, I just thought I would let you guys know what is going on in my Chapter!!

Oct-sober-fest

We advertised that our sadd group would be selling ice cream floats in the canteen about a week before. We were selling coke, root beer, and orange floats for $2 and they would get a cup that they could keep. The cups were a good size (photo coming soon). We got the pop and ice cream donated by our local co-op. we ordered around 200 cups and we sold most of them.

Kerrobert Composite School S.A.D.D. Highlights

This year our S.A.D.D. Chapter has been extremely busy. Earlier this fall we put up a sign on Highway 51 saying "Kerrobert S.A.D.D. wants to remind you NOT to drink and drive" with all the members handprints on the back. There were 8 students as well as 3 chaperones who attended the S.A.D.D. Conference in Saskatoon, which was a blast for everyone. We also had a S.A.D.D. week last fall and are planning another for this spring. Our week included Taco Salad sales, white-out day, fatal vision goggles, choose your ride (police, ambulance or parent), annoying song day and a moment of silence every morning. We also tied the red ribbons to cars at a local hockey game. During the Grey Cup season we sold Roughrider pudding cups at the booth. We also put on a winter carnival of Kindergarten to Grade 6. The activities included scavenger hunts, sidewalk chalk, ball hockey, snowball throwing contest, snowman and snow fort building contests as well aas hot chocolate and cookies for all. This spring we are also hoping to get a guest speaker in an possibly put up another sign.

SADD Week - Whitewod School

During SADD Week, Mar. 3-8, Whitewood School was busy with many activities. On Monday we held an assembly for all Grade 7-12 students to kick off the week and promote the activities we were planning. On Tues. we were lucky enough to have Mitch Dorge speak to the high school students. They all enjoyed his upbeat attitude, stories and interaction. He especially enjoyed the rubber chicken display we put up! All week, we sold paper red ribbons, similar to Telemiracle Helping Hands, both in the school and in businesses in the community. Purchasing a red ribbon in school was your entry fee for Cram the Can on Wed. and the Car Smash on Thursday. The class with the highest sales of red ribbons was treated to a pizza lunch. It was and exciting competition between the Grade 8 class and the Grade 11’s who finally won out. Jr. SADD (grades 4-6) decorated Liquor Bags which were used during SADD week. The local newspaper was on hand to capture all of our activities during the week. It was especially nice to see Red Ribbons up in the windows of businesses all over town and within the High School hallways. We had great school and community support.

PROVINCIAL IMPAIRED DRIVING AWARENESS WEEK MARCH 5-11, 2007 UPDATES

The Melville Comprehensive School SADD Chapter organized a very unique Red Ribbon Campaign aimed at both school students and the citizens of Melville. They created an original contest - an interactive search around Melville to determine how many red ribbons were painted on business windows. Throughout Melville large red ribbons were painted on eight business windows by SADD members. Along with the large red ribbons, each window also had the slogan "Join Us In Our Fight!", as well as the purpose of the red ribbon, Provincial Impaired Driving Awareness Week and their SADD Chapter name. Students were then challenged to find out how many red ribbons there were in painted on business windows. Prizes were then given to students that guessed correctly. The campaign was very successful because it involved the students from their school and expanded the awareness for the message "don't drink and drive" throughout the entire community.

The Eastend SADD Chapter had an entire week of activities including; building a gigantic gigsaw puzzle in the gym, a sub sandwich sale, a drinking and driving phone line songs, a white out day and a duck doo doo contest to pick the winning square where the duck went poop [don't duck out be a D.D.].

The Estevan SADD Chapter began the week with a power point presentation to all students on the dangers of drinking and driving. They also held a white out day, and sold mocktails. During performances by Elvis [Rory Allen] in Estevan on March 10th, he mentioned SADD and reminded people to make good decisions regarding drinking and driving. Following the show he also passed out red ribbons as he was signing autographs.
